A resource of the Learning Center, the Online Writing Lab (OWL) is a service where students e-mail papers and questions for review by professional writing tutors.

- Send an e-mail message to the Online Writing Lab Tutor.
- Use OWL Request as the subject
- Copy the following information into your e-mail message and complete each section. Messages received without complete information will not be processed.

A professional tutor will respond within 48 hours giving suggestions and hints about effective writing, and further questions for you to consider. Response may lead to a series of messages between the you and the tutor. When the concerns are too complex to address effectively through the Online Writing Lab, the tutor will recommend that you make an appointment at the Learning Center.
The tutors will not proofread your work. These are important tasks, but student writers learn little when someone else does them. Additionally, we will not provide content for your papers. Our job is to bring out the skills and ideas you didn't know you had. Finally, tutors will not give an overall evaluation of your work or predict grades.
The concept of the Hazleton Online Writing Lab was modeled on the Penn State Mont Alto OWL site.
