At Penn State Hazleton, FTCAP, Orientation, and First Year Engagement are integrated programs. Each program assists students in their transition to the collegiate experience.
First-Year Consulting and Advising Program (FTCAP)
The First-Year Counseling and Advising Program (FTCAP), conducted by Penn State's Division of Undergraduate Studies, assists new first-year students in evaluating their educational plans by providing them, in late June, with a comprehensive program of individualized educational planning and academic advising. This program is held during the last two weeks in June.
Information on testing and the FTCAP program is available from the Advising Center, (570) 450-3194.
New Student Orientation
Orientation, which occurs immediately before fall classes begin, is designed to prepare students for the academic challenges that lie ahead and to enhance success at Penn State. Acclimating to the campus, as well as meeting other students at orientation, will ensure a positive start to the college experience.
Information on New Student Orientation is available from the Office of Student Affairs, (570) 450-3160.
Making the Connection is a technology workshop that all students will attend during Orientation.
First Year Experience (FYE)
First Year Experience, which typically occurs in the first semester, is a class which students take to learn more about Penn State as well as themselves. It is designed to help students transition to the collegiate environment. Most students are scheduled into First Year Experience classes in their first semester.
Information on First Year Experience is available from the Advising Center, (570) 450-3194.
