- HIV AIDS in the 21st Century - November 3, 2008, 8:30am - 4:30pm
Course can be taken as either 1-credit (BB H 597B) or non-credit (BB H 6028). Approved for 6 Act 48 hours.
This course presents an overview of how the biology and epidemiology of-and the societal reactions to-HIV/AIDS have changed over the last three decades of dealing with this disease. The most updated information regarding risk and transmission; signs, symptoms, and infection progression; and treatment will be provided. The experience of living with HIV/AIDS in the 21st century will be explored.
Course Objectives:
1) Identify the modes of transmission, signs, and symptoms of various sexually transmissible infections, including HIV.
2) Describe the prevalence of various STIs/HIV among young people.
3) Explain how at least 5 bio-psycho-social factors increase the risk of STI/HIV infection among young people.
4) Create learning experiences for a targeted group of young people to prevent the risk of contracting an STI/HIV.
